The Pacific Music Festival (PMF)

The Pacific Music Festival (PMF) was founded in 1990 by Leonard Bernstein, the premier conductor, composer and music educator of the 20th century. With the word "pacific" in its name chosen for its meaning of "peaceful", the annual PMF carries on Bernstein's passionate wish to contribute to world peace through music. The members of PMF Academy are selected through a highly competitive international audition process to participate in a program of study and performances. These promising young musicians from around the world bring fresh interpretations to the traditional repertoire, transcending national boundaries and languages.

In 1999, Nomura Foundation (Nomura Cultural Foundation at that time), together with Nomura Securities Co., Ltd., received the Japan Mécénat Award for Outstanding Cultivation of the Arts for supporting PMF.
