Dunhuang Academy China

The Mogao Caves or "Caves of a Thousand Buddhas" located in Dunhuang, western China were recognized in 1997 as a World Heritage site representing the culture of ancient China. Nomura Foundation provides financial support for researchers from Dunhuang Academy of China to study at Tokyo University of the Arts under a program to preserve Asia's precious cultural assets initiated by the late Ikuo Hirayama, a prominent Japanese painter. The visiting Chinese researchers study techniques and materials for preserving the Mogao Caves and other Buddhist arts of the Tang dynasty.
